About the Seminar: A company may face various financial problems, including cash flow difficulties as well as difficulties to extend credit or raise new capital. In these situations, restructuring usually serves as an alternative to liquidation. In this seminar, the speaker will explain how to rescue a financially distressed company while focusing on debt restructuring, including: - Debt restructuring process and general techniques - Both formal statutory and informal debt restructuring tools - General difficulties faced by a practitioner in debt restructuring - Skill sets required in conducting debt restructuring
About the Speaker: Mr Derek Lai is the Managing Partner of Deloitte China Southern Region, Office Managing Partner of Deloitte Hong Kong office, Asia Pacific Leader of Restructuring Services and an executive director of Deloitte & Touche Financial Advisory Services Limited. He has specialized in corporate restructuring and insolvency in Hong Kong and Mainland China for over 26 years. Mr Lai has substantial insolvency experience and has worked on receivership, liquidation, corporate restructuring and closure management engagements involving entities incorporated in Hong Kong, China and various other international jurisdictions including the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cook Islands, Jersey and the United Kingdom. Mr Lai has worked on formal restructurings and informal workouts. Mr Lai has also acted as joint and several provisional liquidator of Ocean Grand Holdings Limited, Great Wall Cybertech Limited, The Sun’s Group Limited, Far East Pharmaceutical Technology Co, Ltd and Ocean Grand Chemicals Holdings Limited, all of which were listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and have been successfully restructured. He has gained extensive experience in seeking the relisting of the shares of companies in financial difficulties and has dealt on many occasions with the relevant regulators. Mr Lai currently is an Adjunct Professor in City University of Hong Kong and in the School of Accounting and Finance at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Mr Lai is also an Honorable Advisor of Business and Economics Association HKUSU of The University of Hong Kong. He frequently contributes articles in newspapers and books on the topics of liquidations, bankruptcies and receiverships in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
