About the Seminar:

1) Substance requirements in no or nominal tax jurisdictions their effect to Hong Kong taxpayer.

2) Updates on PRC Individual Income Tax Reform

The OECD paper on applying the “substantial activities requirement” to tax havens issued in November 2018 which will affect a lot Hong Kong taxpayer who holds BVI and other haven companies. In view of this we have invited Miss Emily Chak partner of PwC to share with us her views and insight on the development.

Furthermore more with the publishing of the "Regulations on the Implementation of the Individual Income Tax Law of the People's Republic of China” and the “Interim Measures for the Special Deduction of Individual Income Taxes” in late 2018 and tax policy for non-resident individuals in March 2019, the PRC individual income tax and social security reforms have been finalized and fully implemented from 1 January 2019. The tax reform and social security management changes will bring huge impacts to corporations in various ways.

About the Speaker:

Miss Emily Chak, Partner, Tax Services, PwC Hong Kong

Emily has over 16 years of experience in advising local and multi-national clients in different industries with a focus on transportation and logistics as well as energy and utilities. In 2016, Emily led a global merger and tax structuring exercise for two State-Owned Enterprises in the transportation and logistics industry which involved around 40 countries. Emily has also led and heavily involved in numerous mergers and acquisition projects and regional tax advisory assignments, such as IPO planning, corporate restructuring, cross-border financing and cash pooling arrangements, and risk assessments, etc.

Emily is a Committee Member of the Taxation Committee and the Shipping & Transport Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Adam Chiu, Senior Manager, Global Mobility Services, PwC Hong Kong

Mr Chiu has over 10 years of experience in Hong Kong / China cross border individual tax consulting and compliance services. His clients come from a broad range of industries, including financial institutions, transportation and logistics, nutrition and pharmaceutical, luxury brands, fashion and consumer products, etc. He is specialized in advising on cross border social security and immigration requirements, conducting health check on tax compliance, drafting company policy and employment terms covering housing benefits, remuneration package structuring, incentive scheme design, tax equalization, termination package and expatriate management.

Mr Philip Hung, Director, Tax Controversy Services, PwC Hong Kong

Mr Hung has over 32 years of Hong Kong Tax Audit and Controversy Resolution experience. He was the first to set up a specialized team to handle the IRD’s tax investigation and field audit cases for clients. He served a wide range of clients, providing tax controversy services to SMEs, private equity fund firms, conglomerates, listed companies as well as US and European-based multinational corporations with Asia Pacific operations. As the President and Past President of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, he regularly contributes tax technical articles to newspapers and technical journals and is a frequent speaker at tax seminars.

CPD Hours:

Completed CPD hours will be granted to attendees who have attended a full session of seminar. For those who have not attended full session, the number of CPD hours will be discounted accordingly.
