About the Seminar:

With the change in the global tax environment under BEPS, the Hong Kong IRD has taken a more stringent approach in their tax audit cases especially for on/offshore claim and fund management audit. We have invited Mr David KAN the financial service tax partner and Mr Philip HUNG director of tax controversy service of PwC Hong Kong to share with us their experience in handling the IRD tax audit.

About the Speakers:

Mr David KAN, Financial Services Tax Partner, PwC Hong Kong

David is a tax partner in the Financial Services team of PwC Hong Kong specialising in asset and wealth management and banking and capital markets. He has more than 20 years of tax experience. He advises investment funds (hedge funds and private equities), investment management companies, investment banks, commercial banks and securities houses on the day-to-day management of different tax risks and tax matters, including permanent establishment issues, booking model, tax treaty protection, transfer pricing planning, offshore claim and offshore fund tax exemption, and Hong Kong stamp duty compliance.

David also advises clients on structured products and financing arrangements (e.g. aircraft leasing and securitisation). He also assists clients in obtaining advance tax ruling on emerging tax issues and has extensive experience in dealing with the Hong Kong tax authority on disputes concerning tax issues of banks or investment funds. He is also a regular speaker in tax seminars and forums and he also contributes articles to local and regional tax journals on different issues.

Mr Philip HUNG, Director, Tax Controversy, PwC Hong Kong

Philip is a director of the Tax Controversy group in PwC Hong Kong. He has over 34 years of experience in Hong Kong taxation of which 6 years he worked in Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (IRD) including in the Field Audit and Investigation unit. After leaving IRD, Philip concentrated in developing the tax controversy services. He has gained vast experiences in resolving a lot of tax disputes with the IRD not only on tax audit and investigation cases but tax appeal cases as well. Philip has also contributed numerous articles to newspapers and magazines. He also gives regular talks to professional, trade and business associations on the topic.

CPD Hours:

Completed CPD hours will be granted to attendees who have attended a full session of seminar. For those who have not attended full session, the number of CPD hours will be discounted accordingly. For the exact recognition of the CPD hours, please check with the respective Institute or Association.
