About the Seminar:

The Trade Descriptions Ordinance (TDO) was initially a criminally focused legislation enforced by the Customs and Excise Department. Violation of the Ordinance would pose the perpetrators to both fines and imprisonment. Since the original enactment, there had been various ad hoc amendments, such as additions of provisions relating to precious metals, diamonds, and natural jades and designated consumption commodities. The newly amended TDO which came into effect in July 2012 has a series of newly introduced provisions covering the expansion of offences in relation to services, prohibitions of unfair trade practices and expansion of Customs enforcement powers, and introduction of a compliance based mechanism. The seminar will have a brief introduction on the prohibitions of unfair trade practices and corresponding enforcement including the compliance based enforcement mechanism.
