Recent Developments in Financial Reporting for SMEs and in Profits Tax Incentive for Specified Intellectual Property Rights

About the seminar:

In this seminar, Mr. Paul M. P. Chan will provide an update on the following recent accounting / taxation developments:

(1) Consultation paper on eligibility for the use of Small and Medium-Sized Entity Financial Reporting Framework and Financial Reporting Standard.

The HKICPA recently issued a consultation paper on eligibility for the use of Small and Medium-sized Entity Financial Reporting Framework and Financial Reporting Standard. Based on the opinions collected from members, HKICPA will submit its final recommendations to the Companies Bills Committee of the Legislative Council for its consideration. In the seminar, the Institute's preliminary recommendations will be outlined.

(2) Profits Tax Deduction for Capital Expenditure on Specified Intellectual Property Rights under the Inland Revenue (Amendment) (No.3) Ordinance 2011.

The Inland Revenue (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2011 was enacted as the Inland Revenue (Amendment) (No.3) Ordinance 2011after nearly a year long deliberation in the Bills Committee. In the Seminar, the details of the Ordinance, including the criteria for deductions and the anti-avoidance provisions, will be presented and discussed.

About the speaker:

Mr. Paul M. P. Chan is a member of the Legislative Council of HKSAR, representing the Accountancy Constituency. He is the chairman of the Companies Bills Committee and the Inland Revenue (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2011. He is a former President of the HKICPA and former Chairman of ACCA-HK.

Mr. Chan is co-chairman of Crowe Horwath (HK) CPA Limited and serve on the board of several listed companies and a bank. He holds a BBA and a MBA degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is now Adjunct Associate Professor of several universities and frequently lectures on a visiting basis for universities, professional bodies and other institutions.

Mr. Chan has served on many boards and committees of governmental and public bodies, including currently Chairman of Legal Aid Services Council and Professional Services Advisory Committee of HKTDC. He is also a member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Board and the Strategic Development Commission of the HKSAR.

On Mainland services, he is a member of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of the Shanghai City and an advisor to the Accounting Standards Committee of The Ministry of Finance of PRC.

ACCA members are requested to quote "ACCA" as "Membership in Professional Body" and indicate your ACCA membership number when you enrol for the event. Acceptance will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

2) Successful enrolments will be confirmed by email. Unsuccessful applicants will be automatically placed on waiting list; they will be called up in the order of time of receipt of registration when vacancies arise.

3) Applicants may check their registration status using the same membership number of their professional affiliation when they register.


1) After receiving our Confirmation, you can either pay cash or cheque for admission at location.

2) If pay by cash, please present the Confirmation with your cash payment when you attend the seminar.

3) If pay by cheque, please make cheque payable to Accounting Development Foundation Limited. Write down your name and Enrolment ID number on the back of the cheque and submit it with the Confirmation when you attend the seminar.

Seat Accommodation:

Please note that seats accommodation for accepted participants will be reserved until 15 minutes after the seminar starts. Seats may not be available for participants who are late for over 15 minutes.

CPD Hours:

For those participants who have not attended the full session, the number of CPD hours will be discounted according to the actual time of attendance. Completed CPD hours will be granted to attendees who have attended the full session. For the exact recognition of the CPD hours, please check with the respective Institute or Association.
